Skegness Town return to cup action this Saturday afternoon as the Lilywhites make the trip to Nottingham to face West Bridgford Colts in the First Round of the Sports Ground Development UCL Cup.

Following a positive run to the next round with victory at Maltby Main in the Preliminary Round, Town will be hoping to continue their cup journey when they take on a West Bridgford side currently competing in UCL Division One.

The Lilywhites head into the fixture looking to turn a run of competitive league performances into another cup victory.

Recent form

Skegness have experienced a mixed but competitive run of results in recent weeks.

After opening September with an impressive 4–2 comeback victory over Blackstones, Town followed that with a 1–1 draw against Sheffield FC and a 3–1 defeat away at Gresley Rovers.

The Lilywhites then responded with another hard-earned point last Saturday, drawing 1–1 with Leicester Nirvana at the MKM Stadium. That result leaves Skegness with three wins, three draws and three defeats from their opening nine league fixtures, with 16 goals scored and 15 conceded.

There have been encouraging signs in attack, with Town showing their ability to score goals and fight their way back into games, while the cup victory at Maltby Main demonstrated their ability to grind out a result away from home when required.

The UCL Cup has already provided a memorable moment this season, as Kyle Radford's 76th-minute strike secured a 1–0 victory at Maltby Main in the Preliminary Round.

The opposition

West Bridgford Colts currently sit in 16th place in UCL Division One, having collected 10 points from their opening ten league matches. Their record stands at two wins, four draws and four defeats, with 11 goals scored and 16 conceded.

Their most recent league outing ended in a 2–1 home defeat to Staveley Miners Welfare, while earlier in September they drew 1–1 away at Pinxton and played out a goalless draw with Sandiacre Town.

That record suggests Town can expect another competitive afternoon, with West Bridgford having already shown this season that they are capable of making games difficult for their opponents.

The Colts also have plenty of familiarity with cup football and will be looking to make home advantage count when the two sides meet.

For Skegness, Saturday represents another opportunity to make progress in a competition which has already produced a victory on the road this season.

The Lilywhites lifted the UCL Cup in 2023/24, and will now be aiming to take another step towards a potential return to the latter stages.
