We return to Sports Ground Development UCL Cup action on Saturday afternoon as the Lilywhites make the trip to Cambridgeshire to face St Neots Town in the Second Round.
With a place in the next round up for grabs, Gary King and his squad will be determined to produce a strong cup performance on the road, with the tie also presenting an opportunity to get back to winning ways and build momentum for the weeks ahead.
Town booked their place in the Second Round with an impressive 4–1 victory away at West Bridgford Colts in September. The Lilywhites made a blistering start to that tie, scoring four times inside the opening 20 minutes, with Lucas Dakin, Kyle Radford and Theo Kitt-Bushell among the goalscorers.
That followed a hard-fought 1–0 victory at Maltby Main in the Preliminary Round, where Radford's strike proved decisive and secured Town's passage into the competition proper.
The Lilywhites also have fond memories of this competition, having lifted the United Counties League Knockout Cup in the 2023/24 season. Skegness defeated Wellingborough Town 2–1 in the final on 6 May 2024, with Elliot Broughton and Scott Floyd finding the net to secure the silverware. Town will now be hoping to write another successful chapter in the club's cup history as they continue their latest campaign.
Standing in their way are a St Neots Town side competing in the United Counties League Premier Division South. The hosts will be eager to make home advantage count and book their own place in the next round, setting up a competitive test for the Lilywhites.
Skegness head into Saturday's tie looking to turn the corner after a difficult spell in league action. Recent form and defeats, including the 2–0 loss away at Belper United on 17 October, have made it important for Town to find greater consistency as they look to improve their position in the Premier Division North.
There have been positive moments, however, with the Lilywhites recording a 2–0 victory over Brigg Town in the Lincolnshire Senior Trophy on 14 October. Goals from Liam Adams and Lucas Dakin secured progress in that competition and demonstrated the potential within the squad.
Saturday's cup tie now offers another opportunity to build on that result, restore confidence and get back to winning ways. A place in the next round would be a reward in itself, but a positive performance and result could also provide a valuable springboard as Town look to improve their league fortunes in the coming weeks.
Skegness will need to show discipline, work rate and composure in front of goal against a St Neots side keen to progress on home soil. The Lilywhites have already shown in the earlier rounds that they can produce strong performances away from home, and they will need to take those qualities to Cambridgeshire.
With the club's previous success in the competition providing an extra incentive, Town will be determined to give themselves the best possible chance of extending their cup run.
The objective is clear: deliver a positive away performance, secure a place in the next round and take another step towards building momentum for the challenges ahead.
