Skegness Town Look to Build on Mansfield Victory

Skegness Town return to the MKM Stadium on Saturday afternoon looking to build on the momentum of an excellent midweek victory at AFC Mansfield.

The Lilywhites travel back home after producing a composed and resilient performance on Tuesday night, coming from under early pressure to record a deserved 3–1 victory. Lucas Dakin was the star of the show, completing his first hat-trick of the season with three clinical finishes.

It was a result which lifted Skegness up to fifth place in the Premier Division North, with seven points from their opening four league matches. More importantly, the performance demonstrated the character within Gary King's side, particularly after having to withstand a strong opening spell from the hosts.

Now attention turns to Saturday and the visit of Kimberley Miners Welfare, with kick-off at 3pm at the MKM Stadium.

A familiar opponent

Kimberley arrive in Skegness currently sitting ninth in the table, four places behind the Lilywhites. The visitors' early-season form has been mixed, with their record showing two wins and two defeats from their opening four league fixtures.

Skegness will also take confidence from the recent head-to-head record. The most recent meeting at the MKM Stadium, in April, ended in a 1–0 victory for the Lilywhites, while Skegness also won 2–0 away at Kimberley in February.

Saturday therefore presents an opportunity to make it back-to-back league wins and establish some early momentum in what promises to be a competitive Premier Division North campaign.

Confidence growing

Tuesday's victory was particularly encouraging because Skegness had to earn it the hard way. After soaking up sustained pressure during the opening 18 minutes, the Lilywhites gradually grew into the game before Dakin opened the scoring.

The second half saw Skegness take control, with Dakin adding two further goals in quick succession. Even after Kimberley pulled one back from the penalty spot, we remained disciplined and saw the game out professionally.

There were plenty of individual positives too, with Kyle Radford continuing to put in a good display at left back, and Matt Ward doing a great job as right back. Jake Sykes continued to produce an assured display in goal.

The challenge now is to carry that same intensity into Saturday's home fixture.

One to watch

After a hat-trick on Tuesday, all eyes will naturally be on Lucas Dakin. His three goals at AFC Mansfield took him to the forefront of the Lilywhites' attack and will give the forward plenty of confidence heading into Saturday.

With home advantage, a place inside the league's top five and the confidence generated by Tuesday night's win, Skegness will be hoping the MKM Stadium provides the setting for another three-point afternoon.
